Believe in curses?

Monday, October 23rd, 2006

EA Sports Madden NFL 2007 featured Shaun Alexander on the cover. He was injured in week 1 of the season and won’t return until at least Novemember 6 agains the Raiders. Something similar happens to the player on the cover each year. See wikipedia for details.

I’m inclined to indulge the notion of a Campbell’s Chunky Soup curse as well. Matthew Hasslebeck was featured in that commercial this season and looked what happened. The previous year it was Donovan McNabb – but he was also on Madden 2006, so hard to tell which endorsement was to blame.

EDIT: I’ve got to google around more before posting.  Seems the Chunky Soup Curse is documented.

Human Garbage In Section 332 Row KK

Monday, October 23rd, 2006

Dear Seahawks Customer Service Representative,

This last weekend when the Seahawks hosted the Vikings I invited along my father in law to use one of our season tickets.  I hold seats in section 332 row JJ seats 9-10.

I must admit that I’m an emotional fan who occassionally can lose composure and shout a four letter word in reaction to a bad play or missed call (that’s something I need to work on.)  Unfortunately even I was offended by the fans sitting in the row directly behind us (332 KK seats 8-11).  I heard some of the most offensive comments ever made in public.  Here are some of the comments and the context of when they were said:

1) A mantra one guy kept repeating with each Seahawks 1st down – “fucking 5 yards, fucking 5 more yards” (apparently he prefers a running game)

2) Stupid comments like -  “Seneca sucks compared to Matt.  Where’s a real quarter back?”  (Mr. Wallace is the backup quarter back.  I’m sure if he were qualified the coach would start him.  Regardless he deserves respect.)

3) Late in the 4th quarter with less than 2:00 remaing, numerous fans were on their way home – “fucking faggot fair weather fans suck”.  (That game was a huge disappointment.  Fans are used to winning, or at least close games at home.  We all paid good money to attend, if some of us want to leave early that’s our right as customers.)

Those are key quotes, but I assure you there was a constant barrage of  “f-bombs”, suggestions about the sexual orientation of players, spilled beer and insults towards neighboring fans all through out the game.  Having only attended a few home games in our seats I’m unsure if these fans are season ticket holders, or single game purchasers.  If I do encounter them in the coming weeks, I’ll like to voice my concerns before the game, however if those seats are held by season ticket holders I’d appreciate some official warning from Qwest Field/Seahawks staff.

I have two young children at home, both of whom I’d love to start bringing along to Seahawks football games in the coming years.  Unfortunately between the comments that I described and the numerous fights that broke out I feel Qwest field has a long way to go before it can be considered a family venue.

Thank you for your time.
