A big thanks to Gary at Moutain Bike Otfitters for building these. In just one day of city riding I’ve got 4 compliments :)

Rode into work today

Yup – all 30.5 miles door to door on my bike. It took just under 2 hours, mostly because I couldn’t figure out the best route through South Seattle. South Seattle sucks, and it sucks especially bad for riding a bicycle. When I say “south”, I don’t mean SODO or really anything north of the West Seattle Bridge. I’m talking Des Moines, Burien, South Park, George Town – all that industrial/ghetto aggregation that smells badly.
Many roads down there have no shoulders, and if they do they’re littered with glass and debris. It’s frustrating since there’s the interurban bike trail that gets me through Tukwila, and down town Seattle has bike lanes. I’m pretty sure my spokes need truing and if I’m lucky I won’t find a flat after riding through a few miles of debris.
If there was just 3-5 miles of bike lang/path through there I’d consider riding to work more often. In the meantime the Sounder commuter train is a welcomed ammenity.
