busy day

Friday, January 30th, 2004

For not going to work, I had pretty full day. This morning I went snowboarding – did a few runs at Alpental, then goofed around at Summit Central for a few hours. Sometime on the drive back I punctured a tire. Got that patched, returned some marine invertabrae (long story worthy of its own blog entry), and got a brand new car stereo.

As much fun as boarding was, my new audio rig kicks ass. As most of you remember, my pickup got broke into back in November. I’d got the window, body work and interior fixed, but not the stereo. I must say that AMICA is the best auto insurance company I’ve ever known. The pay claims within 2 business days, are totally easy to work with and just do what they should do, when you need it most. They were willing to have Magnolia Audio install it, but I didn’t want to wait for parts, so installed it all myself. It’s been a while since I used a soldering iron (was too cheap/lazy to buy crimp connectors). I got it all done in 90 minutes. Time to crank out some CDs from my mp3 collection…

Anyway – here’s a photo of the deck:

So I negotiated with my boss to take today off and work Saturday. My intent was to get my money’s worth of my ski pass. It won’t prevent me from going, but check out the nasty conditions:

Lamaze

Sunday, January 25th, 2004

We’re heading off to our last of a 3 day lamaze cram session. Today we’re going to learn about Caesarean (“C”) sections. Overall it’s been good. I know a ton more about how labor and birth works now. It’s a large group of people, which is interesting, but after the first 12 hours, people you find a little obnoxious become complete assholes. How nice that those same people thought to spread their genes so our children can be annoyed by their children. That’s the cycle of life I guess.

For Lisa and me, more information equals more confidence. The worst thing would be to hear the doctor say “we’re going to perform an XYZ on your QRS, unless your TUV level exceeds your ABC…” Hopefully this will be available when we need it, and not vaporize at game time. I feel prepared.
